Discussion on the coating and glazing technology of the surface of printed matter (1)

Today's prints are not only brilliantly printed, but also more beautifully decorated. In addition to fine gradation and realistic color image printing, some additional surface treatments are also important measures to improve the quality of printed matter. The printing of metallic inks, embossing, embossing, hot stamping anodized aluminum foil, surface composite transparent plastic film and coating with varnish are some of the additional surface treatment methods that can be selected.

Of course, these additional surface treatments must be as economical as possible. Now, many printing companies have realized that applying varnish on the surface of the printed product is a very good surface finishing method. It can not only be completed at the same time as the printing operation, but also the cost is very low. Manroland, Heidelberg and other offset printing machines can perform all kinds of online coating and glazing.

1. Coating and glazing process

1. The role of applying varnish

â‘ Decorative effect: coat a layer of varnish on the surface of the printed product, which can give the printed product a matte, shiny or high-gloss surface.

â‘¡Protection effect: The glazing oil film coated on the surface of the printed ink layer has a protective effect on the printed ink layer, especially during the transportation of the printed product.

Any printed matter can be coated with varnish. The only question is: Is it appropriate and economical to apply varnish in a certain way under certain conditions?

2. The main types of varnish

The three most commonly used varnishes for online coating are oil-based varnishes, UV-curable varnishes and water-based varnishes.

Generally speaking, the cost of applying oil-based varnish is equivalent to printing another color ink. The cost of water-based varnish coated with the same dry film thickness is generally the same as that of oil-based varnish, but the water-based varnish coating usually needs to be thicker, so the cost of the varnish used is correspondingly higher. In terms of coating effect, the application of ultraviolet curing varnish is the best online coating and glazing process, but it is also the most expensive online coating and glazing method.

In any case, the online coating of varnish is always much more economical than the additional post-processing methods such as composite BOPP film, offline coating of varnish or calendering after printing, so online coating of varnish (especially The use of water-based varnish) has been increasingly widely used.

â‘´Oil-based varnish

The composition of the oil-based varnish is basically the same as that of offset printing inks, but it does not contain pigments and contains about 75% of solid content. It is dried by chemical methods.

The advantages of applying oil-based varnish are:

â‘ The processing method is the same as the general ink printing;
â‘¡It is easy to apply partial finishing;
â‘¢ The coating has good moisture resistance.

The disadvantages of applying oil-based varnish are:

â‘ The oil-based varnish dries slowly;
â‘¡ The coating is relatively thin;
â‘¢ The coating has a tendency to turn yellow;
â‘£After coating, you need to spray powder to prevent the adhesion of printed products;
⑤ It may be necessary to adopt a frame delivery device.

A Stainless Steel Grater is a kitchen utensil used to grate foods into fine pieces.  Several types of stainless steel graters feature different sizes of grating slots, and can therefore aid in the preparation of a variety of foods. They are commonly used to grate cheese and lemon or orange peel (to create zest), and can also be used to grate other soft foods.
