Stamping die closing height setting

Stamping die closing height setting

Text / Jia Qianzhen

When lowering the slider, ensure that the closing height of the punch is greater than the closing height of the mold, and the closing height of the punch should be avoided to directly set the closing height of the mold. Many automated punch presses have the ability to automatically determine the mold closing height, but it should be borne in mind that the mold closing height is the measured mold height when there is material in the mold.

In stamping production, the shearing and forming process requires very high pressure. Excessive pressure can cause the performance of the press to decrease or the closed fuselage to open. Especially for old and old punches, when you set the closing height of the punch directly to the closing height of the mold, sometimes the device jams when the mold is not closed. Excessive closing force will form an indentation on the mold base through the limit post of the mold, and the surface of the mold has minute marks.

The picture above shows the indentation of the mold's limit post on the mold base. You will not continue to use them to proofread the mold height.

The limit column is a precision ground part. It is one of the common technical methods used to check the mold closing height. It can also be used to adjust the closing height of the mold, and sometimes the parallelism of the slider.

The simple method is to have a gap of about 0.5 mm between the limit posts at the beginning of the frame mold, and then adjust the closed height of the mold to the actual height required after the mold is mounted.

Modification of the mold height

Most molds have 2 to 4 limit posts. Generally, the grooves on the front side of these precision limit posts are about 0.7-1.0 mm deep, and the depth of the grooves should be all the same.

Use a piece of welded material or lead strips, place it in the groove, and run the punch. If your limit post is not crushed, you can easily measure the thickness of the lead line.

The gap of most molds after the punch is closed is generally 0.02mm-0.05mm. If the thickness of the lead after the flattening is 1.7mm and the depth of the groove is 1.3mm, you can continue to reduce it by 0.38mm. 0.02mm gap between the limit posts.
