American Dan Pryce once had a decent job and lived a normal life: commuting between 9 and 5, earning living expenses for his wife and children, and repaying loans on time. But 20 years ago, he resolutely left everything and dug a hole in Oregon to live a burrowing life.

Now that he has been over fifty years, he said: "When you get rid of everything and are willing to ask for less, you actually get more."

Escape from worry

Price was a photographer in Kentucky when he was young. He earned money in addition to supporting his wife and two children. At that time, he always worried about money and work pressure.

In an interview with the NBC News Group, he recalled: "I told myself, cheer up, and put the bill back on, so the average person's life should be like this."

At the age of 33, Price read the novel "Payne Hollow" written by Harlan Hubbard in 1974. The protagonist of the novel finds a place of refuge in the Black River and lives a "simple life." This made Price very touched and decided to re-plan his life.

Price divorced and returned home to Oregon, renting 8 square kilometers of grassland for $100 a year. Initially, he lived in thatched cottages, small inns, and even tents. Later he dug a hole in the ground and arranged it with smashed materials for 20 years.

Primitive modern man

Don't think that the life of the burrowing must be primitive and dirty.

Price's hole was clean and tidy, and there was carpet on the floor. The cave is about 2.4 meters square. There are not many furnishings inside, but there are all the equipment needed for daily life, and even electricity and stoves.

Although evading burrows, Price has not escaped from modern life - he usually uses an iPad, an Apple laptop and a mobile phone, and pays $53 a month for his mobile phone. Every winter, when the climate is getting colder, Rice will set off for surfing in Hawaii. From November until next April, the weather turns warm and then returns to his "caves."

The British "Daily Mail" quoted his words on the 14th: "I like to do what I want to do."

Annual cost is $5000

This "simple life" costs about $5,000 a year. It is not difficult for Price to make such money.

He wrote articles for daily life, named "The Moonlight Chronicle," and submitted monthly to an undergraduate fantasy magazine to earn royalties. He will also go to the town to make some strange odd jobs. The two jobs earn enough money for him to be self-sufficient.

In addition, he also wrote a book under the pseudonym “Hobby artist” and named “My Little House”, which can bring a revenue after publication.

"I don't believe in real estate and loans," Price said. "Which person with a clear mind will use his lifetime to repay a house that he can't live without because he is busy with work?"
