Cheshire 3D Printing Center: 40,000 square feet of 3D printing facility

Manchester City University and property company Tatton Estate have agreed to build the Cheshire 3D Printing Center in Cheshire, England, a multi-million pound, 40,000-square-foot 3D printing facility.

It is no secret that the UK is working together to promote additive manufacturing. Last year, an independent government support organization called AM UK released the UK's 3D printing national strategy, stating that the country can prepare for its 3D printing future in a variety of ways. It is hoped that having future technologies like 3D printing will ease the economic blow of Brexit.

It seems that investing in UK 3D printing is already underway as Tatton Estate, the largest private landowner in the East of England, is working with Manchester Metropolitan University to build a multi-million pound 3D printing facility in Cheshire. The two organizations will be preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week to launch the 40,000-square-foot facility, which will be called the Cheshire 3D Print Hub (C3D).

Tatton Estate will provide existing buildings at its Yarwood Heath farm property instead of building new buildings for C3D. In these buildings, the new 3D printing center will serve as a high-tech incubator for local businesses to add 3D printing to their workflow. The creator of the hub said it would bring capital, work and social cohesion to the North West England region.

Manchester City University already has the ability to provide 3D printing services and expertise for C3D and will use its PrintCity facility in Manchester to support the project. In addition to the participation of SMEs, the 3D Printing Center will also work to form an academic partnership and use graduate research projects to support partner companies. This actually means that the Cheshire 3D Printing Center will strive to create mutually beneficial work arrangements through academic skills and private company investments to encourage public-private interaction.

Cheshire is also home to PeptiGelDesign Technologies, a company specializing in the development of 3D bioprinted synthetic biomaterials.
