First, the layout software how to generate PDF file format

At present, the common typesetting software does not have a high level of direct support for the PDF file format. Most of the typesetting software cannot be directly transferred to a PDF file but must be generated by printing. If PageMaker, QuarkXpress, or Illustrator must install plug-ins to convert to PDF files. Basically, various kinds of software produce PDF files containing Chinese fonts, which have to be generated by Adobe's Acrobat. They can be roughly divided into three generation methods:

1 Acrobat PDFWriter - for the conversion of books and magazines, faster and smaller file size.

2 Acrobat Distiller - high quality conversion of complex files such as pictures.

3 Curve EPS - Maximum file size.

Second, the characteristics of the PDF file format

1 device independence: General Postscript file contains a variety of possible legal code, under certain conditions may not be able to run. For example, those that rely on certain special font structures or output devices. On the contrary, the PDF format does not contain any program structure, thus making it more secure and more suitable for storage or transmission in the form of electronic data. Regardless of the kind of file you create on your computer, you can turn it into a PDF file, and you can open it on another computer without difficulty reading, printing, and outputting, and you can maintain the formatting and layout of your production.

2 font inline: In the conversion, you can choose to embed the text font into the PDF file. Even if a Chinese PDF file can be properly printed in a pure English system without Chinese fonts installed, the file exchange network truly achieves no borders. The biggest advantage of the embedded font is to solve the problem of different fonts or corresponding errors between the file producer and the exporter. The current PS process corresponds to the word code, and it must be the same series of the same font company to fully correspond. Font inlay can solve this problem once and for all.

3 High Compression: PDF is a product of the Internet era. To facilitate online communication, it requires a great compression ratio. When used for output purposes, a slightly larger compression mode is selected to ensure quality, but a compression rate of 30% to 80% can still be obtained, which is convenient for uploading to an output company on a broadband network.

4 Page Independence: The pages of a Postscript file are related to each other. Before you jump to a page, you must handle all the pages in front of it. The PDF format does not have this limitation.

Third, use Acrobat Distiller to generate PDF

To create a Postscript document via a PS printer, Distiller interprets this information to generate a PDF. This process can be done in Distiller, or it can be done separately.

The ps file is printed into the designated watch folder and is automatically converted to PDF by Distiller. To generate a PDF for output, you must make some corresponding settings for its properties. There are three aspects:

1. Create the settings for the PS file and set it on the printer.

First select [Settings] > [Printer] from the Start menu, then right click on the Distiller printer and click [Properties] to perform various settings.

Font conversion settings: Click the Fonts tab at the top of the window. You should select: Always use TrueType Fonts to make the output exactly the same as the printout.

[Paper] layout settings: To reserve the space in the finished product size of the printed matter, the film needs to leave 7.5mm space, in order to put the tangent line, alignment line color mark and bleeding position, the printer predetermined paper size to reset .

[Graphics] Resolution selection: 2400DPI is sufficient.

[Details] Under [Print with the following drivers] Select: "AdobePSAcrobat Distiller". [Print to the following port] can be selected according to your preference.

Under [Add Port], click [Others] and select "PDFPort" in the active window to specify the folder for the output file. In this setting, PS/PDF is all in one.

"FILE: (Create File on Disk)" In this setting, create a PS or PRN file in the specified "Surveillance Folder" by printing and convert the PDF.

2. The conversion from PS to PDF is done in Distiller.exe.

Distiller runs as follows:

1 The PDF transmitted over the Internet should be small, the PDF should be printed precisely, and the job options provide different application options:

ScreenOptimized, PrintOptimized, PressOptimized.

Generally can choose according to the situation. However, when it is officially exported, it is recommended to customize a set of job options: first select the PressOptimized (print optimization settings) as the basis, and then perform the [Settings] > [job options]:

[Compression]: Select the "quality" of "color bitmap image" and "gray bitmap image" from the "maximum" to "high", which can reduce the file size by 40% and double the conversion speed. Basically does not harm the image quality.

[Advanced]: "Processing DSC comments (P)" in the conventional document structure - To cancel, do not comment!

[Font]: "When Embedding Fails" Select "Warning and Continue" to easily find out why when PDF cannot be generated. After the above settings are completed, the “Save Job Options As” menu pops up after “OK”, specifying the name of your job options.

Once set, Distiller will automatically convert it to PDF once it has entered the watch folder.

3. Use only once, such as a special layout size, before printing.

Using different software, the printer options are not the same except for PM6.5, such as "Word", "Corel" and other software, you also need: â–  Print to file.

[Printer]: Use a typical installation of an Adobe Distiller printer. Even if you print your color draft, you can turn it into PDF and print again, avoiding many errors.

Fourth, the use of different types of software precautions

1.PageMaker Publishing Software

When you create a PDF file, you must first press the ALT key and then click [File] and then drag to [Print], otherwise the font cannot be embedded! This is an inherent defect of PM6.5.

2. CorelDRAW and other graphics software

The font is automatically Outlined, so there is no text embedding problem.

3. PDF font inlay

Select "Typical installation" when installing Acrobat, and the printer and PPD file will be installed automatically.

Font inlay: Embedding a PDF in your TrueType word, while making the file slightly larger, completely avoids the risk of mistakes when replacing characters in the output center. However, some producers of TrueType characters have limited this, such as Founder's new TrueType Simplified characters. Please do not use them. There are no restrictions on how to check the font. See Acrobat Help P79.

Check embedded fonts: If PDF files are not embedded, they will be replaced when they are output, and there is no guarantee that the screen/print/output heights will be the same. So check it once. The method is to open the PDF file with Acrobat, click [File]> [Document Info]> [Font] to observe the font information. If "embedded subsets" appears under "Use fonts", then "FZYTJW-GB1-0" shows that there are no embedded fonts.

Although the first line of the font is not embedded, the font under Windows under the “Code” indicates that this is a commonly used font in the system and the replacement will not go wrong.
