G7 verification characterization test (2)

Print Characterization Chart

With a new printing plate or RIP curve, in the same state as the calibration test, print a characterization chart (actually a test sample). Take the final wet Lab value (or density) of the calibration test as the target, pay close attention to the uniformity and gray balance of the sample.

Characterized tolerance

There is no set tolerance that can be used for all equipment or processes, because the equipment or process itself has its own unique stability and credibility. A general rule is that the characterization tolerances will be stricter than the production tolerances, because characterization printing needs to reproduce the "perfect" state that the equipment can achieve. In many cases, a single printing process cannot achieve such high accuracy, especially on offset presses, but it may be possible to achieve averaging by printing multiple times at different times.

In general, a good rule is that the characterization tolerance is about half of the production tolerance. For example, if the gray balance tolerance used for production is ± 1a *, ± 2b *, the characteristic tolerance of the equipment should be ± 0.5a *, ± 1b *.
