Effect of paper performance on printing quality

The printing performance of the paper determines whether the printing process can be carried out smoothly and whether high-quality prints can be obtained. The quality of paper is related to the quality of printed products. Therefore, it is of great significance to correctly understand and understand some properties of paper to accurately grasp the suitability of printing process and ensure the quality of printed products.

1. Surface strength

Surface strength refers to the bonding strength between the surface fibers, rubber, fillers of the paper or between the coating particles on the paper surface and between the coating and the paper base. It has a decisive influence on the abrasion resistance, powder resistance and hair loss resistance of the paper surface during printing. In order to get clearer dots during printing, some inks with higher viscosity can be used. If the surface strength of the paper is not enough, powder and fluff are prone to appear and adhere to the surface of the plate.

In the printing process, when the ink splits between the paper and the blanket, the peeling tension is generated due to the tensile force of the ink adhesion and the adhesion between the blanket and the paper. When the bonding strength is not enough, the paper sticking phenomenon will occur during the printing process, forming powder or lint, and in severe cases, the paper will break. White spots were formed on the surface of the paper sheet where the ink should have been stuck. The loose paint, filler particles and fibers sticking down can cause undesirable consequences: First, it causes pollution of the graphic parts, and more and more paper wool and paper powder accumulated on the printing plate will cause paste printing and make the printed product The handwriting is blurry and the screen has spots, which seriously affects the quality of printing. The second is the increase in the cleaning times of blankets and ink rollers in offset printing, which reduces the printing efficiency. Increased the labor intensity of printing workers.

If the surface bonding strength of the paper is not enough, the viscosity of the printing ink must be properly reduced before printing, to reduce the adhesion of the ink to the paper, and to prevent the surface sticking to the paper during printing.

2. Ink absorption

The so-called paper ink absorption refers to the ability of paper to absorb ink. The ink absorption performance of paper is an important index of printability that affects the quality of printing. Paper ink absorption mainly depends on the tightness between paper fibers (the size of the gap). Printing paper requires proper porosity in the paper fiber structure.

If the paper is too slack, the fiber gap is too large, the paper's ink absorption is too strong, on the one hand, it is easy to cause the paper to fluff, on the other hand, the excess material is absorbed into the paper layer or coating, causing the ink layer on the paper surface The lack of binding material makes the pigment particles suspend on the paper surface. After the conjunctiva is dried, the printed prints are stale or tarnished. Even if some of the prints are rubbed, the pigment will peel off in a granular form, causing powdering. The paper's strong absorption of ink may also cause the phenomenon of through-printing.

If the paper has too little ink absorption capacity, it will slow down the drying speed of the ink on the surface of the printed product, and the printing speed cannot be raised. At the same time, the back of the printed product will be smeared, especially for relief printing and high-speed printing that rely on penetration drying. In addition, in printing, paper with poor ink absorption performance is used, and the ink absorption performance after ink application is also poor.

In addition, the paper should also have uniformity of ink absorption, otherwise the color of the handwriting ink will be different.
